As care workers, you have a responsibility to keep your knowledge and skills up to date. This sort of learning is called personal development. Induction standards and health and social care qualifications have units on personal development. The aim of personal development is to make us more effective at work. A key part of your progression within the adult social care sector will be focused on your personal development. In a number of sectors it is even a legal requirement to continue to develop your skills and knowledge and it is essential to ensure you are working to the most up to date standards and guidance. The course will start by looking at the way standards are set, monitored and regulated for social care organisations and workers throughout the UK. It then goes on to cover the codes of practice and legislation, reflecting on your work activities to ensure continued improvement, personal attitudes and beliefs, formal and informal learning, communication, feedback, personal development plans and much more. You will set out practical actions and timeframes: your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based. A plan also makes you think about obstacles and how to prevent or overcome them.
